  • Shuttle Update for March 1

    Shuttle Discovery:

    In Orbiter Processing Facility-1 at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, Fla., technicians are performing main and nose landing gear tire pressure checks in preparation for Discovery’s move to the Vehicle Assembly Building transfer aisle currently targeted for Friday, March 9.

    Discovery is set to be transported atop a NASA Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) modified 747 jet to Dulles International Airport in Virginia on April 17, and then moved to the Smithsonian’s Udvar-Hazy Center for permanent public display on April 19.



    Shuttle Atlantis:

    Atlantis is being temporarily stored in the Vehicle Assembly Building’s high bay 4. Work is undergoing to remove components of Atlantis’ main propulsion system for potential use on future programs. Atlantis is being prepared for public display at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and is scheduled to rollover to the complex November. The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is targeting a July 2013 grand opening for Atlantis’ new home.



    Shuttle Endeavour:

    In Orbiter Processing Facility-2, work to deservice Endeavour’s water coolant loop #2 is in process. Endeavour is being prepared for public display at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.
